Regarding my work profile i am having a total of 4 years of IT experience ,Out of which my relevant experience to Database field is around 2 years.

I have worked upon different technologies in Oracle like Standalone, Dataguard, SQL, RHEL/Oracle Linux operating systems, troubleshooting, managing in-house servers, and so on. I always had an interest in exploring databases during my graduation, I had a good hold over Database Architecture, Backup & Recovery, Performance Tuning, Patching, Upgradation, Configuration and installation of ASM/DB 11g,12c,19c.

As of now, I am looking forward to expanding my portfolio and enhance my technical skills which can help me and benefits the organization to achieve its goal.

“Roles and Responsibility as a Database Administrator”

As an Oracle DBA based on Operations and Transition team we have primarily few Tasks:

  1. Database Installation and Configuration as per organization standards and policies
  2. Supporting database design, creation, and testing activities
  3. Managing the database availability and performance, including incident and problem management
  4. Administering database objects to achieve optimum utilization
  5. Performing database housekeeping, such as tuning, indexing, etc.
  6. Monitoring usage, transaction volumes, response times, concurrency levels, etc.
  7. Identifying reporting, and managing database security issues, audit trails, etc.
  8. Designing database backup, archiving, and storage strategy.

As a laymen we can say DBA Tasks lies within:

Daily tasks involve monitoring various aspects of the Oracle database environment, such as Tablespace utilization, FRA (Fast Recovery Area) utilization, Filesystem usage, and ASM (Automatic Storage Management) Space utilization. Additionally, ensuring the smooth execution of automated jobs, such as backup jobs, and promptly addressing any failures that occur is part of the routine.

Responding to client requests received through ticketing tools like JIRA, BMC Remedy, or Servicenow is a crucial aspect of the role. These requests can range from troubleshooting database issues to implementing changes or configurations based on client requirements.

Collaborating with different teams, including the application team, server operations team, storage team, VMware team, and network team, is essential for resolving issues effectively and within the specified timeframe. This collaborative approach ensures that database-related issues are addressed comprehensively, considering their impact on various components of the IT infrastructure.

In addition to daily housekeeping and resolving client requests, involvement in deployments is also part of the responsibilities. This includes tasks such as ASM installation/upgradation, database installation/upgradation, database patching, parameter changes, and other configuration activities aimed at maintaining and enhancing the Oracle database environment.

Hope it helped !! 🙂
